SymSoft ControlPanelGRC Automates Heritage Propane's Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Initiative

Publicly Held Nationwide Propane Distributor Realizes Improved Workflows, Reduction in Segregation of Duties Work by One-Half

MILWAUKEE, JULY 28 2010 – SymSoft Corporation, a provider of Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) solutions for SAP® environments, today announced that Helena, Mont.-based Heritage Propane (NYSE: ETP), a propane distributor to residential, commercial and motor vehicle customers, has selected SymSoft's ControlPanelGRC for its Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) initiative.

SymSoft's second-generation suite of modular, integrated GRC applications address the major areas of compliance at every level for SAP users.

A sister company to natural gas transportation company Energy Transfer, Heritage Propane has 477 locations around the U.S., providing customers propane varying in size from barbecue cylinders to large storage distribution systems The master limited partnership selected ControlPanelGRC for its ease of use, improved workflows, and automation of its Segregation of Duties (SOD) responsibilities.

"Our old solution wasn't very user-friendly, and created a lot of paper work that required hand delivery to business owners. ControlPanelGRC, on the other hand, provides powerful automation and workflow capabilities," said Tim Curtin, Project Manager at Heritage Propane. "As a company, we're subject to SOX, so our audit team was heavily involved in both our decision to use ControlPanelGRC as well as the analysis behind it. We looked at a number of different solutions. The internal audit staff is really seeing the benefits of ControlPanelGRC now."

Heritage Propane is using ControlPanelGRC Usage Analyzer for monitoring transaction executions for each user; ControlPanelGRC Risk Analyzer for real-time risk analysis and mitigation of SOD and sensitive authorization risks; and ControlPanelGRC Emergency Access Manager to handle the provisioning of emergency access for temporary periods.

"ControlPanelGRC's embedded compliance and accelerated workflows improve data access and reporting so companies like Heritage Propane can leverage their GRC activities to drive more value to their enterprises," said Dan Wilhelms, President and CEO of SymSoft. "We're excited about the GRC process improvements and strong ROI that the company is already realizing."

Part of that ROI was easy implementation, according to Curtin. When Heritage Propane did the cut over to the new GRC tool, it was able to move its old configuration to ControlPanelGRC without having to reinvent the wheel for its 70 SAP, security and business users.

"Our security administrator can now distribute SOD reports to business owners, via workflows, rather than having to print them, hand deliver, and collect them. She is cutting the time spent on this responsibility by one-half, creating huge savings for us," Curtin said.
